"I can..." Statements for the Week of January 11th

Our classroom is in need of UNO, matchbox cars, and paper towel/toilet paper rolls.  If you have any of these items that you'd like to donate to our classroom, please send them with your first grader.  

I can...

• read and write words with oa, ow, and old
• identify long and short vowels
• change the middle sound in words
• make connections to text
• infer with the help of a graphic organizer
• describe parts of an informational report
• describe the genre biography
• add and subtract numbers up to 12
• quickly recall sums to doubles (5+5=10, 2+2=4, etc.)
• use the near doubles strategy (5+6=     5+5=10 - 10 and one more is 11)

We'll be starting a study of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  Our plan is to invite you in to see what students have created to demonstrate their learning and for a virtual field trip with the staff at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington.  I hope to finalize these details and communicate them with you soon!
