Fundraiser TOMORROW - Breezy's Walkers

Type 1 diabetes is a disease that causes your pancreas to stop producing insulin, a hormone that helps provide energy for your body.  30,000 children, teens and young adults in the U.S. are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year.  The cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown and there is no cure.  People with type 1 diabetes must test their blood sugar several times a day and take multiple shots of insulin just to stay alive.

I'm sure most of you have heard from your first grader that we have a friend in our class that has type 1 diabetes.  Brianna, a student in 1U, was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes just before Christmas.  Brianna and her family have had to make many life changes since her diagnoses.  Brianna's school day looks a little different, too.  She needs her blood sugar checked multiple times throughout the school day.  

Brianna has shared with her classmates information about diabetes and they've all gotten a chance to ask her questions.  The genuine care they show to her and her needs on a daily basis is truly inspiring.  The bravery and resilience I see in this young beauty every day is also inspiring.  

Our classroom and school community would like to support Brianna and others with type 1 diabetes by doing a fundraiser for her.  TOMORROW will be a pajama day throughout all elementary centers at Benton Community.  Students are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring $1 or more to be donated towards finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.
