We Have Butterflies!!

Exciting news!  We now have butterflies in our classroom!  The students (and myself) have been waiting a long time for this transformation to happen and it finally has!  It was so much fun to watch them carefully observe the butterflies and the two remaining pupa.  The conversations they were having made my heart sing!  They were discussing how the butterfly was drying its wings, noticing the antennae and the proboscis and asking more questions about metamorphosis.  Your first grader can now use words like proboscis, antennae, nectar  meconium and camouflage.

We also started to create an informative writing piece on butterflies that we'll turn into Little Bird Tales.  Have your student create a Little Bird Tale at home about anything they'd like.  I'd be happy to share it with the rest of the class.  The students love creating these ebooks and it is a great way for them to practice a variety of skills at home.  The Little Bird Tale app is available through iTunes and Google's Play Store.  You can create the tales for free on the Little Bird Tale website listed below.
